Shrek is a being bound by earthly ties - love, relationships, emotions, belongings, etc. He regards himself as an ugly beast that is evil inside out and a lonely traveller in this suffering world.....
He finally found his home that is full of bliss and light when his existence on earth is given a warm embrace by the great Sanctuary - Amida Buddha.
He found his value in Amida Buddha who existed before him and for him.
